History
At the initiative of Michael Häfliger, the current artistic director of the Lucerne Festival, the Davos Festival was founded in the summer of 1986 as a platform for young, highly talented musicians from all over the world. It got off to a promising start, the young stars came from all corners of the globe and transformed Davos for a few days every year into a Mecca for musical youth and future. Important organisational steps were taken in 1990 with the establishment of the foundation 'Musik Davos Festival‘, which was headed by the Zurich lawyer Walter Kupper. The previously founded association ‘Freunde Davos Festival’ (‘Friends of the Davos Festival’) also developed into an essential backer. Within just a few years, the international music festival in Davos ‘young artists in concert' grew into an event lasting three weeks with up to 21 individual performances and receives wide coverage in both national and international media.
